Don’t compare yourself to the Big Guys
Don’t get me wrong here, the big guys are great and provide a plethora of resources that you should use to be able to work your way up to the top ranks.
And don’t worry that they may have 50,000 followers and thousands of page views daily, if you work hard enough and stay focused you will be able to one day have your followers. Analyze their success and try and figure out why certain things worked for them and then implement them in your own blog. Don’t hesitate to post a comment on their sites asking a question or try to get in touch with them in another way. But make sure you don’t waste their time with a simple question that you could have found out by reading their blog entries or looking it up online.
Don’t Worry that your Blog is Failing Because no one is Commenting
So you took the next step in promoting your blog and posted a link to it on your Facebook page and Twitter account but no one commented on your post… what gives? Maybe your post is just not a topic they are familiar with or is simply not relevant to them. Maybe they just don’t know what to say, it can really be that simple. The good thing is that you are trying to promote your blog by reaching out. Think about how many times one of your friends posted a link to some website and you didn’t even bother to check it out or told yourself that you would get to it later and you simply forget about it. Commenting is really just a numbers game, like sales, 1 out of every X people will comment. You just have to find a way to get more readers.
Here’s an example, go to John Chow’s Make Money Online Blog Archive page and look at the number of comments he got the first few months of starting out his blog. What did you find? Surprised? You shouldn’t be, because he knew what it takes to succeed and he stuck to his plan.
Don’t Sit Around Doing Nothing to Promote your Blog
Running a business without advertising is like standing in a room with the lights off, you know where you are but no one else does. So you have to find a way to turn on the lights. Find your light switch to be discovered. There are plenty of social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Digg, StumbleUpon, etc that can be utilized to get more visitors as long as you can provide quality content. Which brings me to my next point…
Don’t Post Infrequently
Sure it’s nice to create some suspense sometimes, but if you are just starting up you’re going to want to create as much quality content as quickly as possible to show people you mean business. If you can catch people’s attention early on you’ll be able to get them to come back later because you’ve showed them that you can offer them something worth their time. The web is full of information, there’s no reason why you can’t find something to post about. Just make an effort to make it your own, as in, add your own opinion to the content you’re talking about instead of just posting a summary. That’s what a blog is after all, people’s (highly valued) opinions.
Don’t Give Up.
This is the worst thing to do. Starting up anything is never an easy task, so if you’ve taken the time to start a blog make sure you keep it going. Your investment of time and patience will eventually pay off.

So Wizno, I have a question that challenges your theory-
I have a blog that is anonymous….nobody knows who I am if they read it. There are no names used, nothing too distinguishing.
Now, my question is this- how can I get my blog out there? I certainly can’t post it on my Facebook or Twitter, that would blow the whole anonymous thing. And I really don’t have the time or patience to create new Facebook and Twitter accounts under mmy pseudonym. Thoughts?
Well that certainly is a challenge! My post was honestly for the users that aren’t trying to be anonymous, but, that aspect of your blog can certainly make your blog that much more interesting. Of course, it does have to be filled with juicy content, which a quick look at your blog revealed that this is the case.
One of the best ways to go about promoting your type of blog would be to seek out other blogs with similar content that may or may not be anonymous and post comments on those users blogs. Let them know you had a similar experience or let them know of a possible solution to a problem they’re currently having. Establish trust with another user and you’ll get more attention.
The other way would be to not be lazy and actually create a secondary account on facebook and twitter because that can be a very powerful tool if used properly.
