One of the things John Chow mentioned in is Make Money Online Blog is that you have to treat your blog as a business if you want to make it successful. I just wanted to put that into perspective so it can be easier to understand for the newbie.
What’s in a name?
Every business has a name which is unique and helps identify a business entity from others. Some business names are self explanatory like “Al’s Painting Company” while others can be just one word or a combination of a few words that may hint at what a company is about like “BestBuy.” Now someone who hasn’t heard of BestBuy before may not know exactly what they sell, but they can most likely infer that they have some kind of good deal going on whatever they are selling. No matter what the name is, it’s a brand identifer for a set of products or services.
When it comes to your Blog, your “Business Name” is essentially your domain name. So when you pick one, make sure it’s a name that is unique and something you can be proud of. I’ve owned Wizno.com for about 8-9 years now and recently bought Wizno.net as well just because! Although I’ll probably do something with it at some point in time… It actually came about because my last name is incredibly difficult to pronounce correctly, so my 9th grade English teacher Mr. Minor kindly shortened it for me. I have to admit that I did not like it at first, but it grew on me over time. It was really unique and sounded ‘techy’ to me so I’ve stuck to it. Anyway, if you can’t think of a catchy name, try and incorporate your products or services into the name so that if someone notices your domain name floating around on someone elses website and they think you may offer what they’re looking for, they’ll be tempted to click on your link and check out your website.
When you say Wizno, you’ve said it all.
The next thing that a company comes up with is a slogan for themselves. I think we all know what that is and I won’t really go to deep into it, but make sure it’s an incredibly brief summary of some quality of your business. For example, if you’re “Al’s Painting Company” you might want something like “We Paint with Passion” or “Professional Painting by Professional People.” I’m a big fan of alliteration as you can see.
Now in your blog, you may want to format the <title> tag to reflect your “slogan” or place it under your logo. Both of these are common places for it, and you may even want to place it in both locations.

Supply and Demand
The most important part of any business is having something to offer your customers. In the case of a blog, your information is your product. Every blog entry you write is a brand new product your adding to your vitual shelf. Now to meet demand, you need to stock your shelves full of quality products that your visitors will want to look at. If people like what they see, they’ll come back and you’ll also attract many new visitors because you are offering something that is wanted. All you have to do is keep the shelves stocked daily and you won’t be going out of business!
